President of Vidarbha sahitya Sangh Manohar Mhaisalkar passed away in the evening on Friday, due to old age. He was 90. He was admitted to Vivek Hospital two days ago.
Born and graduated in Amravati, he completed his bachelor’s degree in commerce. For some time he worked as a teacher with Somalwar High School, Nagpur and later with MOIL. IN1972 he joined Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh and shouldered various responsibilities till he became General Secretary in 1983. He was general Secretary up to 2006 and then became VSS president. Since 2006 he remained President of the literary organization till he breathed his last on Friday.
Mhaisalkar was also associated with Ranjan Kala Mandir, founded by renowned playwright Purushottam Darvbekar. With keen interest in cricket he was associated with Vidarbha Cricket Association and music group Swarsadhana. He was a leader in music, drama, cricket and cultural organisations.
He was witness to renovation of the building of VSS and many literary meets, he died a few months before the literary meet in the centenary year of VSS could be held in Wardha.
Manohar Mhaisalkar’s wife Madhavi died in a road accident a few years back. He is survived by two daughters Archana Deo and Manju Ghate and son-in-law Justice Rohit Deo of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court and a large number of friends and followers.
