A passenger who had just arrived from Sharjah at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Friday morning is said to have had approximately 1.748 kilogrammes of gold worth Rs. 1 crore seized from him.
His office and home were searched by DRI teams, who allegedly found four crore rupees in cash.
DRI officials received specific information from one of their informants that Sanjay Gautam Sethia would arrive at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at around 4.40 am carrying 1.748 kilogrammes of gold from Sharjah.
A team of DRI officers arrested people at the airport. Sethia allegedly tried to flee after getting off the plane but was quickly apprehended by the DRI team, according to the sources.
