Nagpur Municipal Corporation has provided temporary stay for the homeless during the winter chill in the city. The team of NMC carried out a survey in the city to identify the homeless and take them to nearest shelter homes. NMC provided a special vehicle for the team. Those sleeping on footpaths were shifted to the shelter homes.
The team was led by Deputy Commissioner of NMC’s Social Welfare Department Prakash Warade and Social Welfare Officer Dr Rajana Lade.
Under the NMC’s Deendayal Antyoday Yojana basic facilities of cots, mats, blankets etc were provided. NMC has arranged for 280 bed shelter home and free food for senior citizens above 60 years of age. Six shelter homes at Buty Girls School, Temple Bazar Road, Sitabuldi, Near Tekdi Ganesh Mandir, Hansapuri Primary School Timki Bhankheda, Satranjipura Zone old building, Samaj Bhavan Indora Math Mohalla are providing 24 hour services.
NMC has appealed to the people to help the civic authority to extend the help to the needy.
