India dominated Australia in the first test match at Nagpur, crushing them by an innings and 132 runs to get their Border Gavaskar Trophy campaign off to a strong start.
The four-game series ended with the Rohit Sharma-led team holding a 1-0 victory after the match at VCA Stadium was completed in two and a half days. A fifer from spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and two wickets each for pacer Mohammed Shami helped bowl out the visitors for just 91 runs in the second innings. With his 25* off 51 balls, Steve Smith led all scorers for the Australians.
The Pat Cummins-led team struggled to form a partnership after lunch as spinners wrecked havoc. In the second innings, Axar Patel also shared the spoils while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami each claimed a few wickets.
With the second Test scheduled to begin at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 17, India currently leads the four-test series 1-0.
