The union of junior college teachers in Maharashtra have withdrawn its strike on Thursday, following assurance by the Education Minister to discuss their demands after the ongoing budget session of the state legislature.
The junior college teachers had announced a boycott on the valuation of HSC answer papers. The examinations are in progress and almost the papers in almost half of the subjects are over. Valuation of the papers is expected to begin immediately. The result is likely to be announced within the scheduled time.
During a discussion with the School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, secretaries of the department and junior college teachers union were present.
The major demands of the teachers include the old pension scheme for teachers in non-granted or partially granted educational institutions; time-bound promotions and revision of pay scales, recognition and regular pay scales for IT teachers, reviewing conditions for sanctioning grants etc.
