One of the prime locations in the city, the Dhantoli area witnessed a purse snatching incident by a resident in the late evening hours of Thursday. Varsha Deuskar, (60) was walking on her way back home after grocery shopping near Shri Krishna Hospital. The man who snatched her purse was riding alone on his bike. The burglar took out the money from Varsha’s purse and threw it away on the roadside and flew away.
Varsha fell on the ground and was in deep shock. Later, she informed about the incident to her neighbours who rushed her to the hospital. Primary treatment was given to her at Shri Krishna Hospital and she was diagnosed with shoulder dislocation. Varsha will be undergoing surgery today at Dr Sangtani’s Ortho Relief Hospital and Research Centre.
Residents called Dhantoli police station after the incident to file an FIR but apparently, there was no response from the station even after multiple phone calls. A fellow neighbour said “The Dhantoli police officials act very negligently. We had to rush her to the hospital yesterday night but will file an FIR today by going down at the station.”
Another resident added “This is not the first time such an incident has taken place in Dhantoli, another girl was looted in the broad daylight near the Dhantoli garden a few months back. The street lights have not been working for a very long time and the authorities already know about the situation. Yesterday’s incident occurred due to the non-functioning street light. This encourages burglars, making the neighbourhood unsafe.”
