The birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on May 28, will be celebrated in Maharashtra as ‘Swatantryaveer Gaurav Din’, according to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Industries Minister Uday Sawant made the demand to the Chief Minister in this connection. Various programmes to inform the people about Savarkar’s thoughts will be organised on the occasion.
Savarkar’s contribution to the development of the nation is important. He was a social reformer and worked towards the elimination of untouchability and against other social ills. He played an important role in the politics of the nation. His progressive thoughts, determination, and sacrifice for the nation should reach the younger generation, Samant had said in his demand letter to Shinde. His demand was accepted by Shinde who made the announcement for the celebrations.
