Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar is taking an aggressive stance to maintain law and order in the city. In order to restore peace in the society, he had attacked many gangs in the city with preventive operations. Now the city’s gun license holders are on the police commissioner’s radar. The commissioner has canceled the gun licenses of 27 people in the last two years. pistol licenses of 10 people have been canceled in the last four months.
Firearms are used in Maharashtra after Uttar Pradesh-Bihar. After Mumbai, Nagpur has recorded the highest number of pistols used. Many people use country-made and foreign-made pistols illegally. Also, a total of 2 thousand 38 people in the city have a license to use a pistol. Many people want a pistol as an appearance. Some people want to remove the gun license even when they don’t need it. Some get pistol license by working hand in hand with the police personnel in police commissionerate and police station. Pistol licenses have been revoked even when some have been charged with crimes.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has launched a campaign against weapons including firearms in the city. As of April, around 181 cases had been registered under the Arms Act. which included two guns. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has canceled the license of firearms after reviewing the crimes against businessmen, social workers, speculators, criminals, hoteliers. Firearms were reported to have been fired by some arms licensees. Also, the rules were violated by creating a scary atmosphere by circulating the picture of the pistol on social media. Some forms of misuse of weapons were exposed.
Some have reportedly had their licenses revoked due to misuse of firearms. Amitesh Kumar said, all legal formalities and hearings as per law have been completed before any license is suspended. In view of the possibility of future misuse of the weapon, action has been taken to cancel the licences.
