Heavy torrential rains in Nagpur disrupted normal life across the city with forecasts of heavy to very heavy showers over the next few days putting civic authorities and people on the guard.
The rains measuring over 164 mm in the last 12 hours because of a severe depression formed over the region, caused havoc in Nagpur. All major roads and low lying areas including Narendra Nagar, Ramteke Nagar, Mahalaxmi Nagar, Shri hari nagar, Kalamana are overflowing with rainwater.
Narendra Nagar Railway Under Bridge (RuB), Ujwal Nagar underpass and Airport entry road are closed due to waterlogging. A large amount of water logging has been seen at Padole Chowk.
Choked drainages, storm water pipes and overflowing nullahs filled several major thoroughfares with knee-deep water, forcing the authorities to close some of them for traffic.
A resident of Narendra Nagar, Gangadhar Sathe says, “There was heavy rainfall. There is waterlogging and water even entered people’s houses in some areas”
Another resident, Arvind Pandhripande says, “This is a matter of concern. There was heavy rainfall yesterday. Authorities of nagar are careless”
