In a major development which would alter the very concept of intra-city commuting in Nagpur, Maha Metro is all set to introduce shared auto service for its commuters beginning early next year. This arrangement is unique in nature and perhaps the only across the major cities and would be a New Year Gift to the Nagpurians.
This concept would not just ease commuting by Metro, but would be a major game changer for the citizens as it would connect the loose end by providing feeder service. The proposal would be initially implemented at select stations and during peak travel time. Taking into consideration the results it would be gradually executed at other stations too.
Maha Metro had sent a proposal to Regional Transport Authority (RTA) for introduction and implementation of the concept of shared autorickshaws to and from the metro stations in the city. The aim was to provide first and last mile connectivity to the residents of Nagpur. The rates had to be fixed for the same.
The said proposal was recently approved by District Collector, in his capacity as Chairman of RTA. Once implemented, reaching metro station and going to respective destination after Metro travel, will be very convenient. Maha Metro will also put up boards displaying approved fares, at the metro stations. This service will be beneficial for citizens who have to travel daily for office or business work.

“Share e-rickshaw service will be initially started from Lokmanya Nagar, Bansi Nagar, Chitar Oli and Sitabuldi Metro Stations in phased manner and gradually extended to other stations. This facility initially will be provided at metro stations desired by commuters. I urge citizens to take advantage and contribute towards reducing carbon footprint.’’
