“Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has called out a fake video circulating on social media, showcasing deepfake technology. The video falsely portrays Tendulkar promoting an online game. In the edited video, Tendulkar appears to endorse a game, claiming his daughter Sara makes Rs 1.8 lakh daily predicting in it. Unfortunately, Tendulkar is now a victim of identity fraud through deepfake.
Following the video’s emergence, Tendulkar took to his social media to clarify that he had no involvement in the video and that it was manipulated. Expressing concern, the cricket legend conveyed his disturbance at witnessing the widespread misuse of technology. He appealed for collective efforts to halt the dissemination of misinformation and deepfakes, urging people to remain vigilant and cautious.
As per a December 2023 study, India ranks among the top countries in Asia impacted by identity fraud through the use of deepfake technology.
“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers,” Sachin said in a social media post on X.”
