The health department of NMC is reviewing city police and govenment hospital records to ascertain if the recent deaths of seven unknown persons were actually due to heatstroke or some other reason.
GMCH officials said they don’t have any patient of sunstroke but mild heatstroke patients are being treated in general wards. In Mayo Hospital, two patients were being treated for sunstroke. Both are labourers. They were reported with high grade fever and symptoms of dehydration.
These are the first known cases of sunstroke this season. The sun had shot up to 45.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, with the thermometer reading 44.8 on Tuesday.
Four of the suspected heatstroke deaths had been reported from different parts of the city since Sunday. Before this, three deaths of unknown persons had been reported by the police. NMC officials said as these are unknown persons, it is difficult to establish the actual cause of death.
