As many as 37 patients of Chikungunya has been found in the last 35 days in Nagpur City. Due to irregular rains, the atmosphere in the city has become humid. Such an environment is conducive to increase the density of mosquitoes. Due to this, chikungunya is increasing due to the increase of ‘Aedes’ mosquitoes in the city.
Dharampeth and Mangalwari zone reported the highest number of chikungunya cases. As many as 37 patients were reported in the last 35 days (June 1 to July 5, 2024) in both these zones. Pesticide spraying, public awareness and other preventive measures have also been taken up by NMC.
The health department of NMC claims that the disease is now under control. Nagpur did not report a single case of chikungunya between January 2024 and May 2024. But 30 patients were reported in the month of June and 7 patients were reported in the first five days of the month of July. These figures were confirmed by the Municipal Health Department.
