In a bid to tackle escalating traffic congestion, Nagpur Traffic Police have implemented a ban on two-wheeler parking along Residency Road. This decision has sparked apprehension among local shopkeepers who fear a decline in customer footfall due to restricted parking options.
The enforcement of the ban came into effect unexpectedly last Saturday, marked by the presence of a traffic van announcing the prohibition and towing away several parked two-wheelers. This sudden action has left both shopkeepers and motorists on edge.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shashikant Satav, speaking exclusively to Lokmat Times, confirmed the regulatory move. “Nagpur Traffic Police is taking decisive steps to alleviate traffic issues by cracking down on congested areas,” he stated. “We are targeting unauthorized hawkers and illegal parking spaces which exacerbate the city’s traffic woes.”
While attributing the congestion to unauthorized activities and illegal parking, the Deputy Commissioner acknowledged other contributing factors such as prolonged construction projects, delays, and insufficient police presence on the streets.
The ban on two-wheeler parking is part of a broader initiative by Nagpur Traffic Police to restore order to the city’s roadways amidst mounting concerns over traffic management. As the enforcement continues, local businesses remain uncertain about the potential impact on their daily operations and customer accessibility.
