Possibility of poisonous fungus growth high in monsoon
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has appealed to the people to buy packed food for the fast on ‘Ashadhi Ekadashi’ on Wednesday. The appeal has been made in view of food poisoning for over 100 people during March this year.
A large number of devotees had consumed Bhagar, Sabudana, Shinghada flour, Rajgira flour during the Mahashivratri festival. The food items used for consumption during the fast had caused food poisoning.;
FDA on Monday issued an appeal to avoid the possibility of food poisoning. Fungus like aspergillus grows on these flours, if stored for a longer period. The fungus releases poisonous substances like flaminga clovin. The hot and humid atmosphere in July is conducive for the growth of this fungus. The possibility of these food items being infected with the poisonous fungus is very high. Consumers and hotel owners should be careful in using these food items, the FDA has said.
