The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL), also known as Mahavitaran, will implement revised electricity tariffs starting Tuesday, July 1, 2025. The changes follow a tariff order issued by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) on June 25. These rates apply to the 2025–26 financial year, building on the 2024–25 structure.
While unit rates have been reduced for some domestic and commercial users, fixed charges have gone up across most categories. This move aims to balance operational costs while ensuring affordability.
According to a media report, for below poverty line (BPL) consumers, the fixed monthly charge remains unchanged at ₹34. However, there is some relief as the per-unit electricity rate has been reduced from ₹1.74 to ₹1.48.
For regular domestic users:
- Those using up to 100 units will now pay ₹5.74 per unit, down from ₹6.32.
- Those consuming between 101 and 300 units will see a slight increase, from ₹12.23 to ₹12.57 per unit.
- Users consuming more than 500 units will now pay ₹19.15 per unit, up from ₹18.93.
Fixed charges have also increased slightly:
- Domestic consumers using over 100 units will pay ₹130, up from ₹128.
- Commercial users will now pay between ₹520 and ₹525, compared to the earlier ₹517.
- Fixed charges for public water pumps have increased from ₹129–₹194 to ₹140–₹200.
Fixed charges for several other consumer categories have also gone up:
- Industries: ₹583 → ₹600
- Streetlights: ₹142 → ₹150
- Government institutions: ₹427 → ₹450
- Private public services: ₹464 → ₹500
For electric vehicle (EV) charging stations—a growing part of the infrastructure sector—the per-unit rate has increased from ₹8.47 to ₹9.10.
Changes in rates based on usage capacity:
- EV users (20 kW): ₹10.37 (down from ₹10.46)
- EV users (50 kW): ₹14.22 (down from ₹15.38)
- Industrial use (20 kW): ₹7.86 (slightly up from ₹7.85)
- Industrial use (higher loads): ₹9.15 (up from ₹9.14)
- Government and municipal users: ₹8.51 (down from ₹8.57)
These revised rates reflect a mix of minor increases and reductions, depending on the consumer category and usage level.
