In a recent incident near the Jain temple in Lakshminagar, under the jurisdiction of Bajaj Nagar police, a couple fell victim to robbery by someone who pretended to be a transgender person. The perpetrator entered their home by falsely stating they were inquiring about a newborn or wedding in the neighbourhood.
After gaining entry, the impersonator requested water and then demanded Rs. 21,000 from Sudhir (66) and Sangeeta Wankhede (55). They were told it would be exchanged for donations of clothes and grains to 21 needy children. The couple handed over Rs. 11,500 in cash and approximately Rs. 52,000 worth of gold jewelry. The impersonator collected these items and promptly disappeared.
Feeling deceived, Sudhir soon realized he had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme and immediately reported the incident to Bajaj Nagar police station. Following Sangeeta Wankhede’s complaint, authorities have registered a case and are now investigating the prevalence of similar impersonation cases in the city.
