The Nagpur cyber police issued a press release on Thursday advising the public to be cautious about downloading fake bank apps. This caution comes after they received WhatsApp messages from requesting their bank details.
The cyber police stated, “It has come to light that customers of Union Bank of India fell victim to fraud after downloading APK files sent via WhatsApp from an unknown number, which displayed a profile picture resembling the bank. These customers unwittingly provided their details, enabling fraudsters to withdraw money from their accounts.”
Customers are urged to contact Union Bank of India at their toll-free number (18002082244) or reach out to the cyber police at 1930 to report any suspicious activities or file complaints.
