The Regional Transport Office Nagpur City (RTO) has suspended the driving licenses of over 1500 drivers who violate traffic rules, drink alcohol or drive unruly vehicles on various roads in City.
The Motor Vehicle Act provides for the suspension of drivers’ licenses for serious traffic-related offences. But, usually this method of action was not taken. The Regional Transport Office in Nagpur took action against 3101 vehicles violating traffic rules in the city between January 1 and July 2024. A fine of Rs 1 crore 94 lakh was collected from all of them. Along with this, as many as 1530 Motorists’ driving licenses were suspended for three months for violating traffic rules in the serious category.
Drivers whose driving license has been suspended are prohibited from driving in public. If they are caught driving again, they will face a fine of Rs 10,000. Regional Transport Officer of Nagpur City Kiran Bidkar informed that there is a provision in the Motor Vehicle Act to permanently cancel the vehicle of this driver.
