Nagpur: In response to the heavy rains over the past two days, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday ordered a swift evaluation of the damage, especially in areas where flooding has severely impacted farmers. After reviewing the situation with the Divisional Commissioner, Fadnavis urged officials to expedite the damage assessment process.
The districts of Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Bhandara were hit hardest, with rivers like Wainganga and Bawanthadi flooding surrounding areas. Two fatalities were reported in Gondia district, and authorities have evacuated 1,022 people to safer locations. Flooding blocked 47 roads, with 35 of these closures occurring in Gondia alone. Fortunately, as the rains have eased, water levels are gradually receding, according to officials.
In preparation for any further emergencies, two teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and three local disaster management units have been placed on high alert. Additionally, disaster response teams in Gadchiroli, Bhamragad, and Sironcha are on standby. Fadnavis assured that the administration is taking all necessary precautions and remains fully prepared to manage the situation.
