The Maharashtra government has recently approved a major expressway project. This expressway will begin at Pavnar in Wardha district and end at Patradevi, near the Maharashtra-Goa border in Sindhudurg district. Once completed, it will be one of the longest expressways in the country.
The proposed expressway will be 802 kilometers long and will have six lanes. The total construction cost is estimated at ₹86,300 crore. Out of this, the Maharashtra government has approved ₹20,000 crore for project design and land acquisition.
The expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Pavnar and Patradevi—from the current 18-20 hours to just 8-10 hours.
Along its route, it will pass through several important religious sites, including three major Shaktipeeths: Mahalaxmi in Kolhapur, Tulja Bhavani in Dharashiv, and Patradevi in Goa. It will also cover two Jyotirlingas—Aundha Nagnath in Hingoli and Parli Vaijnath in Beed—as well as Pandharpur, home to the famous Shri Vitthal-Rukmini temple.
Besides its religious importance, the expressway is expected to boost regional development, tourism, and economic activity. It is likely to bring about a significant transformation in the social and cultural fabric of Maharashtra.
