In a determined crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Nagpur’s Crime Branch Unit 3 apprehended two men involved in selling ganja, seizing 1.911 kilograms of the drug valued at approximately Rs 39,000. The operation, conducted late on Friday, October 25, also led to the identification of two additional suspects who remain at large as police efforts to apprehend them continue.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Akash Jayagopal Khandekar (24) and Sharad Ramji Bhoyar (24), residents of Badegaon in Dongargaon, Kuhi tehsil. Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch conducted a targeted raid in the Gittikhadan area, resulting in their arrest.
According to officials, around 9:30 p.m. on October 25, Unit 2 of the Crime Branch received intelligence about three men allegedly arriving near the Police Central Transport Department office to conduct a ganja sale. Promptly responding, officers launched a raid, capturing Akash and Sharad. A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of the ganja, which has been seized as evidence.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to procuring the ganja from Roni Rajput, a resident of Kisinga, Odisha, and selling a portion to Aslam alias Bhuru Khan Dawood Khan, a resident of Rani Bhosale Nagar in Bhandewadi. Authorities also confiscated additional assets worth Rs 1.4 lakh from the suspects.
