A vibrant blend of languages, emotions, and cultures took center stage as Kala Sagar’s unique multi-lingual one-act theatre festival concluded with great enthusiasm on Friday. Nagpur-based Vatsal Creation secured the top spot with their captivating play ‘Shubhamangal Saavdhan,’ impressing the audience with its gripping narrative and powerful performances at Mor Hindi Bhavan.
Kala Sagar’s theatre festival, held in collaboration with the Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, showcased a rich variety of plays from across Vidarbha, attracting diverse audiences. Over six days, the festival featured 19 performances in Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, and Sindhi, creating a vibrant celebration for theatre enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
The festival’s finale crowned Nagpur-based Vatsal Creation’s ‘Shubhamangal Saavdhan’ as the winner for its gripping storyline and nuanced performances. The runner-up, ‘Suicide Point,’ by Kalakunj Multi-Purpose Institute, Nagpur, delivered a heartfelt take on sensitive issues, while Advait Multi-Purpose Institute, Amravati, secured third place with ‘Chitrangada,’ impressing with its creative interpretation.
The competition for acting honors was intense, with Praveen Pandey from ‘Meri Munia’ and Akash Dudhankar from ‘Shubhamangal Saavdhan’ winning the top two male acting awards. On the female side, Rasika Ghangere earned praise for her outstanding role in ‘Shubhamangal Saavdhan,’ while Asmita Patil was recognized for her memorable performance in ‘Chala Nighai Chi Wel Jhali.’
Young artist Advait Taral received special recognition for his role in ‘Chitrangada,’ representing Advait Multi-Purpose Institute, Amravati. Manish Chaudhary and Reet Bansi took home the Best Comedian titles. Shyam Askdharkar and Rituja Gomase were honored with Best Director awards for their exceptional direction, while Saurabh Kamble won for Best Lighting and Harsh Nagabhide for Best Sound Mixing.
A distinguished lineup of dignitaries, including Sanjay Bhakere from the Theatre Inspection Board, Raje Barai from the Builders Association, and Dr. Sunil Kamble, NMC Health Officer, attended the event to present awards to the proud winners. The organisers, led by Kala Sagar founder and chief patron Padma Nair, along with president Ravishekhar Gillurkar, expressed their gratitude for the enthusiastic response and vibrant participation throughout the festival.
