A tragic road accident near Sai Rice Mill in Chipdi village on Sunday, November 3, led to the death of a woman and serious injuries to four others when a Swift Dzire car, allegedly driven by an intoxicated police constable, collided with a motorcycle. The incident occurred between 8:15 and 9:00 p.m. under the jurisdiction of Kuhi police station.
The deceased, Neelam Dinesh Ramteke, 35, was a resident of Vadoda, Kamptee. Those injured include Sunil Lende, who was riding the motorcycle, and Ramteke’s children, 14-year-old Tanu and 8-year-old Tanmay, along with 12-year-old Megha Lende, all from Vadoda.
The accused, identified as 30-year-old Arun Sahebrao Bahale, a police constable with Nagpur police headquarters, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he struck the motorcycle at high speed. The victims had attended a family function in Virkhandi village and were returning home when the collision threw them into a roadside drain. Neelam Ramteke succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while the others were transferred to Government Medical College and Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Local residents initially rushed the injured to Kuhi’s Rural Hospital before they were referred to Nagpur. A case has been registered against Bahale under the Motor Vehicle Act for negligent and reckless driving, following a complaint filed by Khilchand Ganvir.
