With BJP-Mahayuti leading in 230 constituencies in over the Maha-Vikas Aghadi, which is more than 79 percent of seats, the Assembly elections appear to be totally one-sided. The situation is such that no other party which are partners in the MVA could gain the position of the Leader of Opposition.
With only 53 seats in the lead, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are leading in 19 seats each and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) could muster leads in only 15 seats. To become a Leader of Opposition position the party should have at least 10 percent of the total seats, which is 29. The situation is like what was seen I the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when the LoP seat was not granted to any political party.
The vast majority of over 3/4th discussion on who would be the next Chief Minister is in progress. BJP being the largest party with 134 seats (not the final count) BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is expected to be the next chief minister. He was also at the centre of the election campaign.
Eknath Shinde (56) and Ajit Pawar (40) have also proved that their parties are the real Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party. The voters have rejected the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar. Congress also is likely to change the state’s party chief Nana Patole.
Congress faced the ignominy of getting only 19 seats, with former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and projected future Chief Minister Balasaheb Thorat losing the elections. Patole is also facing a tough fight in the Sakoli constituency.
Meanwhile, BJP State Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule who was trailing initially from the Kamptee constituency, is now leading by over 10,000 votes.
Celebrations in Nagpur have already started with Fadnavis taking the decisive lead from the Nagpur South-West constituency and then emerging victorious. He defeated Congress candidate Prafulla Gudadhe Patil. Fadnavis is reaching his home town Nagpur on Saturday evening.
Vidarbha, which is traditionally considered a Congress bastion also favoured BJP-Mahayuti. Out of the 62 seats in the region, BJP-Mahayuti is leading in 48 and MVA in only 13.
