A 38-year-old farm labourer allegedly attacked a 72-year-old woman with a stick, leaving her seriously injured after she accused him of stealing potatoes from her house, police said on Monday. The accused, identified as Jairam Pundalik Totade, a resident of Khari Nagoba village, has been arrested and charged with attempt to murder.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the victim, Indubai Madhukar Raut, confronted Totade over the alleged theft. According to police, an enraged Totade went to Raut’s house to challenge the accusation. The verbal altercation escalated, and he attacked the elderly woman with a stick, causing severe injuries.
Villagers who witnessed the assault rushed Raut to a nearby hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Police have confirmed that Totade is in custody, and further investigation is underway.
