Many dog owners show little regard for the law and are uninterested in obtaining a license for their pets. Surprisingly, despite the city having millions of pet dogs, only 1,000 have been registered with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The city is home to numerous dog owners, many of whom spend lakhs on their pets. However, anyone wishing to keep a dog at home is required to obtain a license from the Municipal Corporation.
To secure a license and a badge for the dog to wear around its neck, owners must submit an application to the relevant zone office. The process involves providing proof of address, a doctor’s certificate confirming the dog’s vaccination against rabies, a photo of the dog, and an assurance that the pet will not pollute the area. The health department issues the license, and the fee for the procedure is up to ₹200.
