WhatsApp has launched a new feature globally, adding the familiar bouncing “three dots” typing indicator to its platform. This update is available for both Android and iOS users.
The “Typing Indicators” will appear at the bottom of the chat screen whenever someone starts typing in a one-on-one or group chat. WhatsApp announced, “Now, when someone begins typing, you’ll see a visual ‘…’ cue alongside their profile picture, making it easier to identify who is actively participating in the conversation.”
The new three dots indicator on WhatsApp aims to enhance real-time engagement by showing when someone is typing in both individual and group chats. This feature appears to be enabled by default for all users, though it is unclear if it can be disabled. Notably, a similar typing bubble indicator has been a hallmark of Apple’s iMessage for years. While some users appreciate this real-time feedback, others find it intrusive, preferring to keep their typing activity private.
India remains WhatsApp’s largest market, boasting over 500 million monthly active users (MAUs). The platform has secured its position as one of the country’s most popular apps by consistently introducing new features, making it more versatile and user-friendly.
Recently, WhatsApp has been testing a new feature allowing users to scan QR codes to discover and join channels on the platform. Last month, the Meta-owned app introduced a ‘Drafts Indicator,’ designed to help users quickly locate and complete their unfinished messages.
