The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) app and website experienced a major outage earlier this morning on December 9, leading to widespread disruption for passengers trying to book train tickets. According to Downdetector, about 50% of users were unable to access the website, 40% encountered issues with the app, and 10% faced difficulties completing ticket bookings.
Further data from Downdetector revealed that the outage, which started around 10 AM, led to login issues, difficulties in searching for schedules and fares, and transaction errors. Passengers voiced their frustration on social media, with many reporting an inability to book tickets during the critical Tatkal booking period. There were no outage reports until around 9:48 AM, but soon after—just before the Tatkal period—the number of outages spiked. IRCTC has yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption.
