The H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu) virus has been detected in poultry samples from the Motha Tajbagh area of Nagpur. The confirmation was provided by the ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal and the Disease Investigation Department in Pune on Wednesday.
Following this development, District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar has declared a one-kilometer radius around Motha Tajbagh as an “infected zone.” A nine-kilometer surrounding area has been designated as a “surveillance zone” to monitor the spread.
Authorities have directed the Rapid Response Team to scientifically dispose of all poultry, eggs, and poultry feed within the infected area. Disinfection and sanitization measures have also been approved to prevent further contamination.
As a precaution, the district administration has imposed a 21-day ban on the sale, purchase, and transportation of poultry, eggs, and related products in the infected zone. Additionally, poultry markets, fairs, and exhibitions have been prohibited.
The administration is taking stringent measures to contain the outbreak and safeguard public health while closely monitoring the situation for any further developments.
