The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is set to revolutionize urban transportation with the introduction of India’s first Flash Charging Based Electric Articulated Bus System. This groundbreaking project, supported by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aims to enhance connectivity between Nagpur and its satellite city councils.
The initiative involves the deployment of 25 articulated electric buses, each 18 meters long and capable of carrying 130 passengers. The buses will operate on a 42-kilometer route along the Inner Ring Road, with a scheduled frequency of services between 10 to 30 minutes. The fleet will be equipped with advanced overhead flash charging technology, allowing for rapid charging at designated stops to minimize downtime.
NMC has allocated ₹152 crores for the project, which includes the installation of flash charging infrastructure at strategically located bus stops and development of solar-powered bus shelters. The buses are designed for maximum passenger comfort and will incorporate modern amenities, including CCTV surveillance for enhanced safety.
The project aims to showcase the potential of electric vehicles in public transport, promoting sustainability while addressing the growing demand for efficient urban mobility solutions. This innovative approach positions Nagpur as a leader in adopting advanced transportation technologies, reflecting NMC’s commitment to improving the overall commuting experience while reducing carbon emissions, , .
