The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced the introduction of toll collection at five locations under the Nagpur Integrated Road Development Project (IRDP). The toll stations will be set up at Katol Road, Hingna Road, Umred Road, Ring Road (Wadi Junction), and Wadi-Katol Road near Octroi Naka.
The decision has sparked concerns among daily commuters and transporters, as the additional toll charges will lead to an increase in travel costs. With the estimated toll collection over three years projected at ₹63.40 crore, citizens fear that the cost of goods and passenger travel will rise significantly.
Adding to the frustration, the poor condition of roads in several parts of Nagpur has raised questions about the justification for toll collection. Commuters argue that despite paying these charges, road maintenance remains inadequate.
Previously, these routes did not have toll collection, making travel more affordable for residents and transporters. Now, with toll gates in place, motorists will have to bear the extra financial burden, particularly affecting those who rely on these roads for daily commutes.
Many citizens have expressed their dissatisfaction, urging authorities to improve road conditions before imposing tolls. As the new system rolls out, it remains to be seen how it will impact traffic flow and public sentiment in the coming months.
