India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his frustration over repeated questions about his poor form and future beyond the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during a pre-match press conference ahead of the first ODI against England in Nagpur.
Rohit, who has struggled for runs in recent months—including a disappointing 1-3 Test series loss against Australia and an underwhelming performance for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy—was asked about his lack of big scores. Known for his composed demeanor, the skipper lost his patience this time.
“What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, a different time. As cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs, and I have faced a lot in my career. So, this is nothing new to me. Every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series,” Rohit responded, as quoted by Indian Express.
Despite the scrutiny, Rohit insisted he is focused on starting the ODI series on a high and not dwelling on past failures.
Rohit Sharma Dismisses Speculation About His Future
When questioned about his future after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit dismissed the topic as irrelevant.
“How is it relevant to talk about my future plans when there are three ODIs and a Champions Trophy coming up? Reports have been going around for years, but I am not here to clarify them. My focus is on these games. We will see what happens afterward,” he stated firmly.
A Different Side of Rohit Sharma
The press conference revealed a rare agitated and assertive side of Rohit—one reminiscent of his predecessor, Virat Kohli. Even during India’s 46-all-out collapse against New Zealand last year, Rohit had maintained his composure. However, in Nagpur on Wednesday, he made it clear that he was not entertaining speculation about his career trajectory.
