The Chandrapur Flying Club has successfully completed its trials at Morwa airport and is set to begin training new pilots soon. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted safety clearance, and the club will be inaugurated by Aero Club of India President Rajiv Pratap Rudy on February 21.
According to a senior official, 40 youths from Maharashtra, including 10 from Chandrapur, will receive training at the Flying Club.
Aiming to provide opportunities for the youth of Chandrapur and nearby districts to pursue a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), the Chandrapur Flying Club was established on the initiative of Sudhir Mungantiwar, former Cabinet Minister and MLA from Ballarpur.
The Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) has already sanctioned funds for the reconstruction of the runway at Morwa, Chandrapur airport. Additionally, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth ₹60 crore has been drafted for a satellite-based navigation system at the airport.
More than Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) for re-carpeting the runway at Morwa. Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had already inspected the airport, and after completing plane trials, the DGCA granted final approval to commence training sessions, a senior officer from the Collectorate informed.
Notably, trainees from Chandrapur will be required to pay only 10% of the course fee, while the remaining amount will be covered through DPDC funds.
A total of four planes have been brought to Chandrapur for training, with an additional 2-3 aircraft likely to be sanctioned after completing the necessary formalities. The first Flying Station/Club in Vidarbha was established in Nagpur in 1947.
