The CBSE announced on Tuesday that, beginning in 2026, students will have the option to appear for the board exams twice a year.
As per this rule, the first exams will commence from the first Tuesday after 15 February every year. The first exams will be completed by 6 March. The second phase of the board exam will be held from 5 to 20 May. The new system will provide an opportunity to students to improve their results in the second exam if needed.
On Tuesday evening, CBSE announced its proposal to hold board exams twice a year. The draft of the new exam system is available for review on the official CBSE website. Schools, teachers, parents, students, and the public can share their feedback on the proposed policy.
After extensive discussions, the draft policy has been prepared and published on the CBSE website. Stakeholders can submit their feedback by March 9.
The responses will be reviewed before finalizing the policy. The Union Ministry of Education stated that alongside offering greater flexibility, student choice, and the best-of-two attempts, board exams should also focus on assessing core skills as a key reform.
