In a recent global ranking by TasteAtlas, India’s Butter Garlic Naan has been honored as the world’s best bread, achieving an impressive rating of 4.7. This soft, airy flatbread, enriched with butter and infused with garlic, has garnered international acclaim for its rich flavor and texture.
The recognition doesn’t stop there; several other Indian breads have also secured top positions in the list. Amritsari Kulcha, known for its crispy layers and spicy fillings, claimed the second spot. Parotta, celebrated for its flaky texture, ranked sixth, while the versatile Naan secured the eighth position. Other notable mentions include Paratha at 18th, Bhatura at 26th, Aloo Naan at 28th, and Roti at 35th.
Naan is normally baked in a tandoor (clay oven), but it may also be prepared at home with a tawa (flat pan). To prepare naan at home, the dough is put on a hot tawa and flipped over an open flame until air bubbles are formed and the top is evenly browned.
The robust showing of Indian breads on international platforms demonstrates the diversity and rich gastronomic history of Indian food, and rightly, it is getting its due worldwide recognition.
