While farmers struggle and infrastructure crumbles, the Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation Limited (MSSCL) has found a top priority—eliminating the elite rodents infesting its godowns. And they’re not cutting corners. With a budget of ₹32.5 lakh, the state is gearing up for an extermination drive that could set records in rodent warfare.
According to official advertisements, MSSCL will undertake “prophylactic spraying, chemical fumigation, and rat control measures” across storage units in Akola, Parbhani, Jalna, Jalgaon, Nagpur, and Pune. At ₹65 per rat, this grand operation aims to eliminate around 50,000 rodents—perhaps the most expensive eviction in history.
For context, the state government spends just ₹5 per student on a mid-day meal, yet each rodent in these warehouses apparently warrants 13 times that amount. Critics wonder if these godown rats have developed superpowers or if someone in the system has found a golden opportunity in Maharashtra’s booming pest control industry.
Officials claim the infestation is so severe that only a large-scale operation can tackle it. But citizens can’t help but wish for similar urgency in matters that impact them directly. Until then, farmers can only dream of such high-budget interventions in their own struggles.
The battle is set—Maharashtra’s most privileged rodents versus a ₹32.5 lakh war chest. Let’s see who survives.
