Nagpur: In a bid to tighten the grip on crimes against women, Nagpur Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has instructed investigation officers to act promptly on complaints, with a special focus on swift charge sheet filing and increased vigilance near schools, colleges, and residential areas.
The directives were issued during a review meeting chaired by the Commissioner on April 8, 2025, at Police Bhavan’s Auditorium Hall. The session included over 100 investigation officers from 33 police stations and 50 “Police Didis,” who are actively involved in community policing and women’s safety initiatives.
The Commissioner stressed immediate action at crime scenes, timely evidence collection, and detailed investigation procedures. Officers were clearly directed to file charge sheets without waiting for procedural deadlines. A special mention was made of Beltarodi Police Station for successfully submitting a charge sheet within just 48 hours in a recent case — a move hailed as a benchmark for other units.
Emphasis was also placed on intensifying patrolling and preventive measures against eve-teasing during evening hours, especially in educational zones and crowded localities. The role of “Police Didis” was highlighted as key to bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community. Officers were encouraged to conduct regular awareness programs under the initiative to help deter gender-based offences.
The Commissioner also allowed temporary closure of cases lacking immediate evidence, but stressed that such cases must be revisited and thoroughly investigated later. Delays or pendency in investigations, he warned, would not be tolerated.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Additional CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, Dr. Shivaji Rathod, DCP Rahul Makanikar, PI Isarkar of the Social Security Department, PI Seema Surve from the Bharosa Cell, and all ACPs across zones.
