In a major step towards digital transformation and ease of public commuting, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for its Aapli Bus service. The card was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, April 15, by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari at the NMC headquarters.
This initiative supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “One Nation, One Card” and aims to promote cashless travel. With the NCMC, passengers no longer need to carry cash for bus fare. The card has been introduced in collaboration with technology partner Chalo, offering a unified digital platform for public transport users.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Chaudhari said that going forward, the NCMC will be the primary card used in Aapli Bus services. However, passengers holding older NMC-issued cards can continue using them until expiry. After that, they will be issued the NCMC card at no additional cost.
Although the NCMC is not yet active on the Nagpur Metro, efforts are in progress to make it functional there as well. Once technical integrations are complete, commuters will be able to use a single card for both bus and metro travel.
The NCMC card also doubles as a payment tool at retail stores, restaurants, and on e-commerce platforms. It is available at key bus depots including Wadi, Hingna, Patwardhan Ground, and Naka No. 13. Passengers can recharge the card online, via the Chalo Card app, at bus pass centers, or directly from bus conductors.
Present during the launch were Additional Commissioner Mrs. Vasumana Pant, Transport Manager Mr. Vinod Jadhav, and several senior officials from the transport department.
