Overall Impact:
A total of 249 criminals were screened during the operation, including:
• 71 body offenders
• 3 jail release convicts
• 15 history-sheeters
• 20 under MCOCA
• 3 under NDPS Act
• 17 booked under MPDA
• 6 juveniles in conflict with law
• 49 externed (tadipar) criminals
• 1 accused involved in illegal liquor sales
Key Interventions:
At Kalamna Police Station, a murder convict identified as Shubham Sharma, who was recently released from jail, was booked preventively, and a dossier form was filled. The DB team seized eight mobile phones worth ₹1.04 lakh from local offenders. In another significant action, Beltarodi Police initiated preventive steps against rape and kidnapping accused Shankarlal Zharia, registering him under the ‘SIMBA’ system.
Officers also ensured updated entries in the SIMBA database and conducted searches of the homes of several offenders. It was found that many were employed as auto-rickshaw drivers, or at snack factories and other small businesses. Police have directed employers to conduct thorough background checks before hiring. Agencies employing suspects as security guards were also issued notices for verification after several accused were found working as guards.
Surveillance and Further Investigations:
Authorities discovered that some suspects were running businesses such as dhabas, hotels, Chinese food stalls, fabrication units, painting, and washing services. Others were found to be residing in districts outside Nagpur or at religious places. DB teams gathered this information from their families and shared relevant details with corresponding DB units.
Offenders’ homes were visited to verify their residence, employment, and vehicle details. Notices were issued, and preventive legal actions were initiated in some cases. CCTV footage was used for verification wherever necessary.
Focus Areas:
Particular attention was paid to suspects previously booked under MCOCA, MPDA, NDPS Act, and externment (tadipar) cases in areas like Sonegaon, Pratapnagar, Wathoda, Koradi, Gittikhadan, Imamwada, and Jaripatka. Some suspects were found at home, while others were either absent or out of town.
Commissioner’s Warning to Criminals:
Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has issued a stern warning to habitual offenders, stating that such operations will continue and be intensified. He emphasized that “criminals must think twice before committing crimes, or be prepared to face strict legal action.”
This citywide operation has created an atmosphere of fear among criminals, with DB teams keeping a close watch on identified dark zones to maintain law and order.
