In line with a nationwide emergency preparedness campaign, multiple mock drills are being conducted across Mumbai to enhance response readiness during crises. The initiative is being held under directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
As part of the drill series, the Civil Defence unit of Central Railway conducted a comprehensive mock drill at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Tuesday. The exercise involved active participation from railway staff and emergency personnel, aimed at strengthening coordination and public awareness in the face of potential threats.
Central Railway CPRO Dr. Swapnil Nila stated, “Civil Defence unit of the Central Railways carried out a mock drill at CSMT. Through the mock drill, Central Railways has demonstrated its alertness to deal with any kind of situation and tried to alert the common man through the drills.”
Another drill was simultaneously conducted at Cross Maidan by the Mumbai Civil Defence team, reinforcing the city’s preparedness for wartime scenarios, air raids, and blackout situations.
According to officials, the Maharashtra Government, in coordination with the Indian Army and Mumbai Police, is executing these drills at key locations citywide. The exercises are scheduled between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, beginning with a two-minute air raid siren. Residents are advised to follow emergency protocols including turning off gas and electrical appliances, seeking shelter, and remaining indoors during the drills.
The large-scale operation involves coordination between 12 emergency response agencies, including police, fire services, medical teams, and municipal departments. The drills also include blackout simulations, intended to test Mumbai’s resilience and response time in the event of an aerial threat.
These drills come amid heightened security concerns and are designed to foster public awareness and institutional preparedness in the face of evolving geopolitical challenges.
