The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has made a significant move towards eliminating potholes from the city’s roads by upgrading its hot mix plant with advanced technology. Situated in the Hingna MIDC area and covering 6.73 acres, the plant plays a key role in road repairs, resurfacing, and patchwork throughout the city. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, the plant has recently undergone a major modernization.
The modernization includes the installation of new counter-flow drum mix technology, improving operational efficiency and reducing fuel consumption. As a result, the plant’s capacity has risen from 30-40 tonnes per hour to an impressive 60-90 tonnes per hour. This boost in output is expected to accelerate road maintenance across the city and lower operational costs for the corporation
The plant now operates with an automated system, enhancing the quality and consistency of asphalt mix production. A team of 22 staff members, led by an executive engineer, manages the plant’s operations. In addition to the new machinery, the NMC has also acquired five new tippers, pavers, and rollers to support field operations. The use of light diesel oil (LDO) as fuel in the upgraded plant will help reduce pollution levels, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
