The Railway authorities have clarified that six commuters of a local train who were travelling on the footboard died in an accident between Kopar and Diwa stations. They were not the passengers of the Pushpak Express. The accident occurred on Monday morning, when eight passengers on the footboard of two different local trains collided and fell. Six of them died.
Central Railway’s PRO Neela Swapnil said that the passengers were travelling on the footboards of two local trains moving in the opposite directions. The accident occurred around 8.30 am. Eight commuters were lifted from the railway track and rushed to a hospital. Five others were handed over to the GRP by the Guard. Mumbra Station Master confirmed the death of three passengers, while sources at the hospital stated the death of six. The hospital authorities have not officially confirmed the number of deaths.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the deaths. The Railway Administration is investigating into the cause of the death, he added.
