Aishwarya Toshniwal, a second-year medical student at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad’s Meghani Nagar area and a native of Akola district in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, had a narrow escape in the recent Air India plane crash.
Recalling the horrifying incident, Toshniwal said, “This was the most terrifying experience of my life, which I will never forget.” She managed to survive by climbing out through the smoke from the fifth floor and shielding herself with a blanket.
Toshniwal, who hails from Durga Chowk in Akola, was asleep on the fifth floor of the second hostel building when the crash took place.
She was jolted awake by a loud explosion, followed by dense smoke filling the area. Despite the chaos, she bravely navigated through the thick smoke and managed to escape unharmed.
A family member from Akola shared that Aishwarya had sustained visible marks on her face, hands, and legs due to the incident.
In a state of panic, Aishwarya quickly called her father, Amol Toshniwal, who was at his saree shop in Durga Chowk, Akola, when the call came. Shocked by the news, he shut the shop immediately and rushed back home.
Amol Toshniwal said, “We were shocked when we saw the news on TV. But by the grace of God, our daughter survived such a big accident.”
Aishwarya’s mother, Madhuri Toshniwal, and her grandparents were in tears as they thanked God for her safety. Her grandfather shared emotionally, “Our granddaughter had come for my birthday, but she had to face such an accident. I thank God a hundred times that she is safe.”
Deeply shaken by the incident, the Toshniwal family expressed their heartfelt condolences to those injured and to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.
