The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued high-level weather alerts across several districts of Maharashtra, warning of intense rainfall activity in the coming hours. A red alert—indicating extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places—has been declared for Palghar and the ghat regions of Nashik and Pune.
An orange alert, signaling the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain, has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Nashik, Ratnagiri, and parts of Satara. Residents have been advised to remain cautious due to the risk of flooding and waterlogging. These alerts remain effective until 8:30 am on June 20.
In Raigad district, the Amba and Kundalika rivers have breached the danger mark, prompting authorities to issue warnings for the Patalganga River as well. Similarly, in Ratnagiri district, the Jagbudi River is flowing above safe levels. As a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges in Raigad have been ordered shut for the day.
According to data shared by the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Cell, Mumbai recorded the highest rainfall in the state in the past 24 hours—142.6 mm—followed by Raigad with 134.1 mm, Palghar with 120.9 mm, Thane with 90.3 mm, and 60.5 mm in the Mumbai suburban area.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rivers continue to swell and heavy downpours persist. Citizens are urged to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to follow official advisories for their safety.
