After months of silence and administrative delays, the Urban Development Department (UDD) has finally greenlit the roadmap to restore democracy in Nagpur. The long-pending Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections are now set to take place in October, with delimitation of wards kicking off immediately.
The process begins June 11–16 with the formation of enumerator teams, followed by a draft layout of ward boundaries on June 17–18. Detailed analysis, spot inspections, and groundwork across the city will take place from June 19 to July 4.
From July 5 to 10, ward boundaries will be mapped using Google Maps—a digital-first approach—with on-ground verification from July 11 to 24 to ensure accuracy. The draft will then head to the UDD and the State Election Commission (SEC) by August 11.
Citizens will get a brief window—from August 22 to 28—to raise objections or suggestions. Public hearings will be held August 29 to September 8, with final approvals expected by September 22.
The official notification of new ward boundaries will be published between October 3 and 6, officially triggering the election process. As per election rules, polls must be conducted within 45–60 days, placing Nagpur’s long-awaited civic elections squarely in late October or early November.
Political parties are already in recalibration mode. With familiar vote banks about to be split and new power zones emerging, this October’s NMC election is set to be one of the most intense and unpredictable in years. Let the battle begin.
