For the first time, a representative from the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) has been elected as the president of the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA).
Sandip Joshi, former mayor of Nagpur and current NDBA president, has taken charge as the new MSBA president. “This is a proud moment for basketball in Nagpur,” said an NDBA official.
In its 68-year history, the Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) has never had a president from Nagpur — until now. Sandip Joshi has become the first official from the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) to be elected as MSBA president. NDBA secretary Bhavesh Kuchanwar has also been elected as the vice president of the state association.
Govind Krishnan Muthukumar from Mumbai has been chosen as the general secretary, while Ibrahim Lakdawala will serve as the treasurer of MSBA.
The election process began after MSBA’s affiliation with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) was reinstated. NDBA actively took part in the process.
After six years of dispute, the BFI officially restored the affiliation of the MSBA on June 27.
On Friday, the Maharashtra State Boxing Association (MSBA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and conducted elections to form its new governing body for the 2025–2029 term. Representatives from all 31 district associations affiliated with the MSBA participated in the proceedings. The election process was overseen by Returning Officer Adv. Abhishek Salian.
The election was observed by Shakti Sinh Gohil from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and Pradeep Gandhe from the Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA). Along with President Kuchanwar, the newly elected vice presidents of the MSBA include Vikrant Patil, S. Ramakrishnan, and M. Venkatesh.
Pune’s Lalit Nahata and Amravati’s Jayant Deshmukh have been elected as the two associate secretaries of the association.
The newly elected executive members of the MSBA include Shrinivas Sape, Manoj Reddy, Sashikant Nandgaokar, and Ashwin Chandel.
“Basketball is my favourite sport along with kabaddi and wrestling. Taking into account my love for this sport and my work in NDBA, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of the president of Maharashtra Basketball Association. Thank you very much for this trust! I am committed to producing national-level players in Maharashtra, building modern infrastructure and finding solutions to the problems of the players,” said Sandip Joshi, president of MSBA
