Panic broke out in Khadki village of Vadwani taluka, Beed, after a truck overturned when the road suddenly collapsed during an inspection visit by an engineer and his team. They had come to check the ongoing road repair work when the incident took place.
A video of the mishap, now widely shared on social media, shows people running in fear, with some jumping into a nearby pit dug for bridge construction to avoid being crushed by the truck.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the condition of roads in the area and the overall safety of the infrastructure.
The engineer was visiting the site in response to complaints from local students about the hazardous condition of the road. Earlier, the students had approached the Chief Minister’s Gram Sadak Department, demanding an alternative route, as ongoing bridge construction had made the existing road unsafe for travel. Taking note of their concerns, the engineer had promised to personally inspect the location and inform the contractor responsible for the work.
The road collapse happened on Wednesday while the engineer was carrying out his inspection. According to eyewitnesses, the truck lost balance due to the severely damaged road and overturned near the excavation site. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in the incident.
