Nagpur’s newest internet sensation isn’t a monument — it’s a traffic disaster. A baffling T-junction flyover on Old Kamptee Road near Shanti Nagar has been unofficially renamed by locals as “Uth ke muh me jira square” — a sarcastic nod to poor planning that has now made it to Google Maps.
The flyover, built by M/s. C S Construction under the PWD, was meant to ease traffic. Instead, it’s become a meme. Locals are forced into wild U-turns and dead-end detours, with no direct connection between the two arms of the flyover.
“If you miss your turn, you may as well pack lunch,” one commuter quipped.
The idiom, loosely translating to “a pinch of cumin in an empty stomach,” reflects the pointless design that’s leaving commuters frustrated and laughing.
Shockingly, the renamed square now shows up on Google Maps, and even has a 5-star review:
“Greatest Nagpurian place of all times!” wrote one amused resident.
While the internet laughs, the issue is serious. Emergency vehicles and school buses struggle daily.
PWD Executive Engineer Laxmikant Rahulkar admitted the design from their end was as per plan, but blamed “technical changes by another authority” for the current chaos. The contractor declined to comment.
Until someone fixes it, residents are stuck with nothing but sarcasm — and a flyover that’s now Nagpur’s most infamous joke.
