When Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 — India’s first privately built orbital rocket — roared off the launchpad at Sriharikota, two young creators from Vidarbha were right there behind the camera, capturing a story a year in the making.
Nagpur’s Kashmira Sant and Chandrapur’s Rahul Menon led the creative team from Hyderabad-based Vaylthil Films, working with Skyroot’s official backing to document nearly every stage of the mission — pre-launch drills, technical tests, final countdown, and liftoff itself. The rocket is named for Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, widely regarded as the father of India’s space programme, and lifted off successfully from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
Sant, who led the team, called the year-long assignment one of the most exciting journeys in India’s private space sector, saying the goal was to capture not just the rocket but the grit and dedication of the scientists and engineers behind it. Menon echoed that sentiment, describing the chance to document the mission from start to finish as an unforgettable, career-defining experience.
Beyond the hardware, the duo’s footage leaned into the human side of the mission — the years of effort behind the technology. Their work is now being seen as a proud moment for Vidarbha, showcasing the region’s talent at the intersection of science, technology and storytelling on a national stage.
